Start with the exact CTC-VIS result. A failed emissions test, an invalid submission, a software issue and a referral are not interchangeable. The next step may be a repair, a corrected submission or a CARB-directed process.

Keep the result and test date. Contact the submitting tester so the next appointment addresses that result rather than simply repeating the same attempt. Confirm the applicable retest terms with CTCA before scheduling.
